back coupling ist eine Gruppenausstellung von jungen Künstler*innen der Münchner Kunstakademie mit Partnern aus aller Welt. Über ein Jahr arbeiteten die Münchner*innen mit ihren Kolleg*innen aus Ghana, Hongkong, Japan, Iran, Spanien und Südafrika zusammen.
Dabei entstanden Videos und Sound-Installationen, Skulpturen und Malerei, Textilarbeiten und Mixed Media.
Die Ausstellung ist Teil des Projekts „Exploring Visual Cultures“ unter der Leitung von Avi Sooful aus Pretoria, Südafrika in Kooperation mit der Kunstakademie. “Es ist die erste Ausstellung in dieser Generation, die ganz systematisch künstlerische Zusammenarbeit über Kulturen und Ländergrenzen, über weite Distanzen und Sprachbarrieren hinweg erprobt,“ so Ernst Wagner, der Initiator und Kurator von der Kunstakademie. „Die Ergebnisse sind deshalb so spannend, weil die unterschiedlichen Zugänge deutlich werden.”
Extrem unterschiedliche künstlerische Praktiken und Bildsprachen aus Ghana und Deutschland spielen in einer sehr politischen Arbeit von Lawrence Kyere und Rosa Pfluger zusammen – zu sehen in super+CENTERCOURT, ebenso wie das Kombi-Gemälde von Clara Ciriquiain und Maria Obermeier, das feinste Nuancen von Differenz zur Sprache bringt.
So gibt es etwa eine Vielfalt von Ausgangsmaterialien aus Hong Kong, Deutschland, Iran und Südafrika, die in einer überzeugende Klangmontage zu einem ortlosen, globalen, zeitgenössischen Kunstwerk verschmilzt (Yi Lam April Kam aus Hong Kong und Mira Sattelberger aus München in achtzehnkommazwei – RAUM FÜR KUNST). Im gleichen Raum ein skulpturaler Dialog zwischen Japan und Deutschland (Shigeyuki Myagawaund Martin Lehmer).
Im Digital Art Space sind zwei Installationen zu sehen: Octavia Roodt aus Südafrika und Stela Vula aus München haben sich auf eine intensive Reise begeben, um eine gemeinsame, digitale Bildsprache zu finden, die die kulturellen Differenzen zum Vibrieren bringt, während im zweiten Raum Hosein Gafouri aus dem Iran und Georg Schatz das Thema Shelter / Schutzraum aus ihrer jeweiligen Perspektive heraus erkunden.

"back coupling" is a group exhibition by young artists at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, Germany together with partners from all around the world. For more than one year the students worked with their colleagues from Ghana, Hong Kong, Japan, Iran, Spain and South Africa on a joint project. The results are videos and sound installations, sculptures, paintings, textile works and mixed media. The exhibition is hosted by three different off-spaces in Munich."This is the first exhibition by this generation systematically practicing artistic collaboration beyond cultures and borders, long distances and language barriers", says Ernst Wagner, initiator and curator of this project and porfessor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. "What makes the results so fascinating are their different ways of apporaching such a cooperation."
Extremely different art practices and visual vocabulary clash in a very political work by Lawrence Kyere (Ghana) and Rosa Pfluger (Germany) - exhibited at Super+CENTERCOURT, among a combined painting by Clara Ciriquiain from Spain and Maria Obermeier, Germany, which articulates subtle nuances of slight differences.
One example is an array of sounds from Hong Kong, Germany, Iran and South Africa, which merge to a captivating sound collage, forming a placeless, global, contemporary work of art (Yi Lam April Kam from Hong Kong and Mira Sattelberger from Munich at achtzehnkommazwei – RAUM FÜR KUNST). In the same room there is a sculptural dialogue between Japan and Germany (Shigeyuki Myagawa und Martin Lehmer).
At Karin Wimmer's Digital Art Space, there are two installations on show: Octavia Roodt from South Africa and Stela Vula from Munich went on the search for a common, digital imagery, which lets cultural differences vibrate, whereas, in a second room, Hosein Gafouri (Iran) and Georg Schatz (Germany) investigate on the topic of shelter from their respective point of view.
