RageRing

The domestication of the inner animal, the rage, the fury, is a concern that has united people since time immemorial. When hammering and working the ring, this aggression is channelled. This discharged energy of the body and mind is transferred to the material, originally detritus and now branded results of the transfer of energy. The ring blank serves as a controlled emotional discharge of aggression. The energy transfer soothes Regina Rupp and Julian Arayapong, who cooperated for this project. Insults lose their cutting edge in abstraction. The alienation of the traditionally noble material and form for the purpose of anger and stress management is part of a protracted process of rediscovery and the artists’ play with status and symbolic objects.
